Knysna, a travel destination between lush forests and peaceful lagoon

One of the best travel destinations in Western Cape, South Africa is Knysna. It has a great kingdom of natural beauty, including golden beaches, serene lakes and indigenous forests. It lies at the bank of beautiful lagoon and includes impressive sea horses reserves and more than 200 species of fishes. It is the best place to enjoy outdoor adventure, lakes, beaches; rivers and mountain provide several options of outdoor games. Town is quite calm and has flea-market, number of crafts shops, coffee cafes etc. The area surrounding Knysna is quite scenic and has garden which is very beautiful. It is the only home of Africa’s forest elephants, flower plants of various rich colors, visiting whales, beautiful forest birds, and dolphins.

Knysna has South Africa’s complex, largest, and dense forest in its southern region. It includes more than 8000 species of plants, out of total floral kingdom of Cape. It has very rich vegetation creating scenic views. It is a very thrilling experience to explore these forests while walking around.

There are only three elephants to roam around in the forest. These elephants were brought back to forest of Knysna. Many orphan elephants were rescued from culling operation in a park named Kruger Park and preserved in Knysna forest.

The holiday in South Africa is incomplete if you do not visit the lagoons. The impressive natural beauty of a pair of bright colored cliffs situated near the mouth of a lagoon draw your attention. The channel, containing calm and clear water, flowing into Lagoon of Knysna simply attracts you. The eastern region is the best to enjoy the scenic views of the beautiful Lagoon. Knysna is the best place to enjoy your free time. The top region of western part consists of privately owned natural reserve known as Featherbed Bay. Tourists can reach this reserve via ferries.

Attractions in Knysna

Featherbed Nature Reserve Feathered Nature Reserve offers magnificent scenic views of the nature’s beauty of Knysna and the view of beautiful Lagoon too. The ferry is available here to carry visitors. Four-wheelers are available for tourists which take them to top most regions of Western head. Walking track of two kilometers takes visitors to coastal region of forest and brings back to Featherbed tavern, where tourists can enjoy lunch of fresh nine and grilled fish and other sea food.

Outeniqua Choo-Choo Outeniqua Choo-Choo is considered to be the best attractive place on the whole Garden Route. Train running on steam offers the picturesque views of hidden and coastline valley which can not be seen by car. The steam train in Choo-Choo is the first train started in South Africa to run a long distance of 68 kilometers. In its way, it covers lagoon of Knysna, lush valleys, lakes, uncultivated gardens lying at the side of river that runs through the narrow opening of hills and Kaaimans River, Victoria Bay and returns to Knysna. Most of the locomotives are as old as a century and few dates back to 1947-48. Take seat on the window side so that you can see all scenic views along the route.

Elephant Park in Knysna This is the most visited attraction of Knysna. A safari is arranged in four wheeler vehicles that leave the reception every 30 minutes. It is possible to touch those three elephants roaming the forest within the 75 hectare of reserved area. Now, the elephant park of Knysna consists of seven elephants of which four elephants were born in Kruger Park. Elephants are very calm and you can walk with them along the forest.
